Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. She moved to Oxfordshire when she was five where she attended the Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she made the decision to pursue a career as an actress. She studied for a number of years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. At the age of ten the actress took part in and performed the main role in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma via her Oxford theater teacher. After eight consistent auditions producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast for the roles of the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first cinematic appearance was as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The film beat all previous records on its opening and weekend ticket revenues, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. It was highly acclaimed by experts, and also by the performances of its three new starlets. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British newspaper, called Emma's acting "amazing". Emma's performance received nominations and later won awards in the film.
